Distribution Center Manager

“The most rewarding part of working at Saddle Creek is the opportunity to focus on our associates and their professional development. We’ve got great, aspiring leaders, and we do whatever we can to help them be successful.”

Zach Purdom joined Saddle Creek Logistics Services as Operations Manager in Lexington, Ky., in 2017. He had just returned to the United States after spending three years in Beijing, China, where he was responsible for manufacturing operations and supply-chain across 16 countries throughout Asia-Pacific.

Now back home, Zach wanted to help grow the local economy and bring more jobs to his home state of Kentucky. He succeeded.

“When I started at Saddle Creek in 2017, our facility employed 35 associates,” Zach remembers. “Today, we have 200 associates. We’ve become a full-fledged fulfillment campus. The team’s growth has led to our growth.”

Today, the facility specializes in direct-to-consumer (D2C) order fulfillment for a diverse client base, spanning many market segments and industries.

“In the fulfillment world, clients are very eclectic, and their needs can change a lot, based on seasonality, promotions, and now pandemics,” Zach says. “We have to be able to adapt to their evolving demands – to build flexibility into our DNA.”

He credits Saddle Creek’s company culture for helping the team to succeed.

“This is a busy, even hectic, environment with a lot of growth. It wouldn’t be possible to grow and overcome these challenges without a great culture,” he says. “It’s a pleasure to work with a team that shares the same values I have. That has enabled us to achieve great outcomes.”

As the business has grown, Zach has led the Lexington team through numerous customer implementations as well as a building transition and multiple expansions. His efforts have earned him two promotions – most recently to Distribution Center Manager.

Zach says his new role is more strategic and focused on driving excellence in different ways.

“As a DC manager, my first priority is taking care of our people,” he says. “The most rewarding part of working at Saddle Creek is the opportunity to focus on our associates and their professional development. We’ve got great, aspiring leaders, and we do whatever we can to help them be successful.”

“I’d absolutely recommend working at Saddle Creek,” Zach says. “If you like to be a problem solver, this is a great place to land, to feel valued and be challenged.”
