Willie Freeman

Willie Freeman has been making a difference at Saddle Creek Logistics Services in Fort Worth, Texas, for more than 16 years. Since joining the company as a truck driver, he has been a role model for new drivers and colleagues. Willie is known for his experience and willingness to help others – always with a smile on his face.

A Vietnam veteran, Willie has had two very different careers since leaving the military. He originally graduated in accounting and worked as an accountant for eight years. When his employer downsized, he transitioned to the transportation department.

“Because I had driven different kinds of equipment in the military, I decided to change my career,” he remembers. “I couldn’t afford to lose my job. My daughter was in college and my son was in high school. I needed to help them finish their education, so I started driving trucks. A couple years later, I had the opportunity to go back to accounting, but I love driving and I was making more money as a driver than I made behind the desk.”

Willie joined Saddle Creek as professional driver in 2003. Today, he is a yard driver, responsible for positioning empty trailers at the doors of a 1.5-million-square-foot warehouse. He makes sure the trailers are available and ready to be filled.

Willie takes safety very seriously. Since joining Saddle Creek, he has never had an accident and recently received the company’s 15-Year Safety Award.

When asked what motivates him come to work every day, Willie says, “The people I work with make all the difference. The management team here is fantastic. We laugh, we joke, we work hard, and we celebrate. When you get along well with the people you work with, you can enjoy yourself and your team, and that makes the work easier.”

Willie has been working since he was 13 years old and has had a very successful career. He was able to raise his family and pay for his kids’ college tuition, and he is now planning his well-deserved retirement. We are very proud to have Willie on the Saddle Creek team.
