Pedro Melgoza

Distribution Supervisor

“Saddle Creek is continually investing time and resources to strengthen the employee culture, and it shows. There’s a sense of community, a sense of responsibility to one another. We’re like family.”
Pedro Melgoza

Pedro Melgoza already had 18 years of logistics experience when he joined Saddle Creek Logistics Services in 2011. Since then, he’s taken his understanding of the profession to a new level. Over the past three years, he has been earning a college degree with help from the company’s education program while working as a Distribution Supervisor at the Ontario, Calif., facility.

Pedro has now earned an international diploma for supply chain management, and this semester he will complete his associate degree with a concentration in logistics and a certificate in business management from a local community college with a highly ranked logistics program.

Saddle Creek’s education program provides financial support for associates who wish to pursue professional training or a college degree. Pedro applied for the program at the recommendation of a manager and mentor and urging of a co-worker.

“I wanted to learn more about the business and make myself promotable,” Pedro says. “Saddle Creek is expanding, and I want to be in a position to be competitive and help the company.”

Earning a degree as a full-time husband, dad and employee wasn’t easy, he acknowledges. “It was challenging, but it was absolutely worth it. It has given me an added layer of knowledge. I’ve been able to expand on what I’ve already learned and put it in a broader perspective.”

Pedro credits the support of his family and co-workers for helping him to achieve his goal. “If it wasn’t for my team, I couldn’t do what I’m doing today. I can’t thank them enough,” he emphasizes.

In addition to his classroom education, Pedro has learned on the job at Saddle Creek. He has participated in numerous training and team-building sessions. And over the years, he has been involved with each of the key accounts at the Ontario facility, handling everything from food products to furniture. The experience he gained now helps him in his current role, supervising day-to-day operations for the facility’s biggest account.

Throughout his career at Saddle Creek, Pedro has observed that the company invests, not only in educating associates, but also in creating a positive work environment.

“Saddle Creek is continually investing time and resources to strengthen the employee culture, and it shows,” he says. “There’s a sense of community, a sense of responsibility to one another. We’re like family.”
