Senior Customer Service Representative
“Teamwork is important at Saddle Creek, In the office, we try to balance out the work, so we can get through the day as smoothly as possible.”Matthew Hamm
“Saddle Creek is the best employer I have ever worked for,” Matthew Hamm says with conviction. “Everywhere else I have worked, I was treated as if I was just another number. Saddle Creek treats you like an individual.”
In 2017, Matthew joined Saddle Creek Logistics Services as a Forklift Driver in Edwardsville, Ill., based on a friend’s recommendation. Since then, he has been promoted twice – first to Customer Service Representative and then to Senior Customer Service Representative.
He has had the opportunity to learn new skills and develop professionally. He says his immediate supervisor, Logan Raffety, has been instrumental in helping him to grow and improve.
“Logan has a wealth of knowledge,” Matthew says. “Anytime I go to him with an issue, he has an answer and explains how he arrived at that answer, so I can learn from him.”
Matthew also was introduced to Lean Six Sigma – a collaborative approach to process improvement which Saddle Creek uses at its facilities nationwide. He now helps with Green Belt certification projects.
Matthew takes pride in helping both the company’s clients and his colleagues, and he is quick to take care of side projects as needed to help his team.
“Teamwork is important at Saddle Creek,” he explains. “In the office, we try to balance out the work, so we can get through the day as smoothly as possible.”
Saddle Creek’s values-based culture is a big part of the company’s appeal for Matthew.
“It is a very positive environment, and they treat you with respect. When you interact with management, they make you feel good. They have compassion,” he says. “It is very different from the other company I worked for at the beginning of my career.”
One of Matthew’s favorite experiences at Saddle Creek is Founder’s Day which is celebrated each year to honor the legacy of company founder David Lyons.
“It’s nice when a company shows appreciation for its employees,” he says. “It creates a sense of family.”
