Professional Driver
“I can have one-on-one conversations with my supervisors. They always listen and work to improve things. Together, we always do our best to take care of the customer.”Johnny Chestnut
Johnny Chestnut learned to drive a truck when he was 14 years old. Since then, he has logged over 3.5 million miles during his 40-plus-year career – many of those from behind the wheel at Saddle Creek Logistics Services. He joined the company as a Driver in 1999.
“It’s the best decision I ever made. I wish I had come here earlier,” he says. “I love working at Saddle Creek. The people and the environment are great.”
Johnny appreciates Saddle Creek’s “open-door” policy. “You can always talk to your supervisor – or anyone in management,” he explains. “I can have one-on-one conversations with my supervisors. They always listen and work to improve things. Together, we always do our best to take care of the customer.”
The customer always comes first for Johnny, who has been delivering to the same company since he joined Saddle Creek.
“I have a long relationship with them, and they trust me,” he says. “I’ve gotten to know the people there personally and really understand what they need.”
Johnny demonstrates his care for customers’ products by driving safely. He has maintained an accident-free driving record for over 20 years.
“Safe driving is a focus at Saddle Creek. Every year, they recognize me for driving safely,” he says.
Johnny’s local route gives him a home-daily schedule that is often hard to come by for truck drivers.
“Working at Saddle Creek, I get to go home every night, and go to church on Sunday. I’m a big family man,” he explains.
Johnny also finds time to volunteer for Wreaths Across America, managing local promotion and fundraising for the annual holiday tribute to fallen veterans. Saddle Creek has been participating in the event since 2006 with enthusiastic support from associates.
“Two weeks before Christmas every year, we transport wreaths to Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell,” he explains. “Each year, we’re able to honor more veterans. In 2019, approximately 12,000 people helped in laying over 36,000 wreaths on gravesites.”
