Senior Operations Manager
“I’m proud of my story. Saddle Creek has given me many opportunities to grow in my career. I never felt the need to go to college to get promoted. I worked very hard here and learned everything I need to know on the job.”Jason Cobb
Jason Cobb joined Saddle Creek Logistics Services in 1992, but his history with the company goes back much farther than that. His father, Jerry, was the company’s first employee – starting in 1966.
“I’ve been around Saddle Creek my whole life,” Jason says. “I started working here in Lakeland, Florida, two weeks after I graduated from high school, and I’ve been here ever since. It’s the only place I’ve ever worked.”
That said, Jason’s career has been far from stagnant. He got his start loading railcars, then trained to drive a forklift and a clamp – learning from his uncle, who also worked at the company. (Today, his original forklift certificate still hangs on his office wall.)
When a Lead position opened up, Jason was quick to apply. In the years that followed, he was promoted multiple times to positions with larger accounts and progressively more responsibility – Supervisor, Lead Supervisor, Operations Manager, and, most recently, Senior Operations Manager.
“I’m proud of my story. Saddle Creek has given me many opportunities to grow in my career,” Jason explains. “I never felt the need to go to college to get promoted. I worked very hard here and learned everything I need to know on the job.”
Today, Jason oversees operations totaling 715,000 square feet for four food-and-beverage clients.
“My job is to keep associates and clients happy. That’s 90 percent of what I do,” he says.
Jason spends much of his time on planning – determining weekly staffing needs based on order volume and making sure associates have the tools they need to meet clients’ requirements. He collaborates with other managers to share resources, labor and space.
“I love working at Saddle Creek. After all these years, I still love to come in every day,” he says. “It is really because of the people.”
Jason especially appreciates the people who have trained and mentored him over the years and is eager to pay it forward.
“People took the time to train me, and now I take pride in training and developing my team,” he explains. “Saddle Creek makes it a priority to promote from within, and we’ve developed a lot of people from temps to managers over the years. In fact, most of the managers and supervisors here have worked with me at some point!”
