"They give me the autonomy to use my experience and skills. They trust me and have confidence in me. They ask my advice and they listen. I feel relevant, valued.”

Felicia Snead has a strong sense of purpose. “I believe in leaving things better than you found them,” the Saddle Creek Claims Manager explains. “Be a difference maker – an asset.  Be a positive influence in whatever you do.”

That sense of purpose helps to explain why Felicia was awarded the 2020 Saddle Creek Founder’s Award. Established in honor of company founder David Lyons, the annual award recognizes a Saddle Creek associate who not only succeeds in the workplace but also demonstrates a clear commitment to bettering their community.

In addition to working at Saddle Creek, Felicia is actively involved in seven non-profit organizations – helping the homeless, feeding the hungry, serving as an advocate for young people and more.

In announcing the award, Saddle Creek Senior Director Bill McParland points out that Felicia truly embodies the company’s core values: “She goes out of her way to help people in need. She loves people, works hard and always tries to lift the spirits of those around her. I believe these characteristics represent all that is good in our company.”

Felicia demonstrates these characteristics in the workplace as well. In her role as Claims Manager, Felicia helps associates who have had serious injuries, so a personal touch is critical.

“You’ve got to treat people how you want to be treated,” she says. “Have a relationship with them. I take time to say ‘good morning’ and ask people how they’re doing. Then, I really listen to their answer.”

Felicia sees those same qualities in evidence at Saddle Creek every day. “They give me the autonomy to use my experience and skills. They trust me and have confidence in me. They ask my advice and they listen.” she explains. “I feel relevant, valued.”

Felicia joined the company's Risk and Safety team in 2017 after working at large, global companies for more than two decades. Saddle Creek's corporate culture was especially appealing to her.

“I love the family environment here. I could pick up the phone and call anyone in the company. Everyone is so approachable – even the CEO. That makes Saddle Creek one of a kind,” she says.
