Derwin Molina

For over a decade, Derwin Molina has been helping Saddle Creek Logistics Services to become more efficient and deliver excellence in service. Since joining the company, he has held six different roles that have allowed him to increase his transportation knowledge and expand his responsibilities.

Right after the recession in 2008, Derwin’s previous company was downsizing. He was looking for a fresh start and a job where he could grow in the future. He heard from friends that Saddle Creek was a promising organization and was hiring drivers, so he decided to apply.

Today, Derwin is a Transportation Manager. He oversees the operations in Lakeland, Auburndale and Jacksonville, Fla., and supports in the team in Valdosta, Ga. He and his team are also responsible for Saddle Creek’s 24/7 dispatch. During the night, when other locations are closed, drivers across the U.S. call Lakeland in case of an emergency or if they need any help.

“My days are never the same here at Saddle Creek. I set my priorities based on the previous shift results and the needs of our customers and associates,” Derwin says. “Anything can change in a matter of seconds, and I enjoy that dynamic.”

Things have changed since he started working at Saddle Creek. Derwin remembers, “We only had about 30 drivers when I started. Today we have 135. I have seen Saddle Creek grow so much. In the past, we didn’t have nearly as much technology as we do today. We have implemented a number of new systems to become safer and more efficient and communicate better with our drivers.”

Derwin now mentors the younger generation just as he was mentored along his journey at Saddle Creek. He wants to pay it forward.

“I have learned many new skills here because people took an interest in me. I want to do the same for others,” he explains. “I share what I’ve learned and guide and help my team so that they can be promoted in the future.”
