Amina Ayubu

Fulfillment Supervisor

“Working at a Saddle Creek warehouse is not just picking and packing. If they see that you’re capable and working hard, they encourage you to do more and learn more.”

Amina Ayubu’s path to Saddle Creek Logistics Services is a remarkable one.

Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, she and her family fled to Kenya in 1992. After attending high school and college there, Amina moved to the U.S. as a refugee with her mom and five siblings in the winter of 2009.

To help support her family, Amina found work as a housekeeper and caregiver. After several years, she was ready to try something different. She accepted a warehouse job at a major company but quickly realized that the atmosphere and schedule were not a good fit for her.

Eager to make a change, she began researching opportunities online. When she came across Saddle Creek, she could sense a difference.

“I could tell right away that management focuses on making sure that associates are engaged and able to succeed,” she explains. “They care about people and treat everyone with respect.”

When Amina joined the company’s team in Lexington, Ky., in 2014, she remembers, “Saddle Creek embraced me. I immediately felt like part of the family. I knew it was a place I could call home.”

Amina started in a temporary position, picking and packing for multiple accounts, and joined the company permanently six months later. A few years later, she was promoted to Team Lead at a larger Saddle Creek facility nearby and began training teams for new accounts.

With additional experience and increased confidence, Amina applied for a position as Fulfillment Supervisor 18 months later. She now oversees operations for five different accounts.

“Working at a Saddle Creek warehouse is not just picking and packing. If they see that you’re capable and working hard, they encourage you to do more and learn more,” she explains.

Amina strengthened her skills with assistance from those around her. Her manager helped to ease her transition to new responsibilities by discussing challenges and coaching her through them. Coworkers helped her to master day-to-day tasks.

“I learned everything I know about warehousing and fulfillment at Saddle Creek,” Amina says. “I didn’t know I could get to where I am right now. They helped me to develop without even realizing it!” she says.
